The Catskill Mountains are located about one hundred miles northwest of NYC, situated along the Hudson River's west bank. Clear streams and waterfalls lie between its peaks, and nearly 300,000 acres of forest fill the Catskill Park. Privately owned areas of this forest, managed carefully for forestry stewardship, provide the beautiful, local hardwoods from which Walton Stair and Cabinet Company composes its cabinetry and wood stair construction. In fact, the workshop where we design the components of any staircase, balustrade and cabinetry panel is located in one of the six counties of the Catskill Region. These are Delaware (Walton's home county), Greene, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, and Otsego. It's a beautiful area in which to craft fine hardwood showcase items for your historic home restoration.

The names of the northern trees in the Catskill Mountains area sound almost as pretty as the specimens themselves or the hardwood they furnish: Eastern red cedar, white ash, black cherry, Eastern hemlock. For generations local woodworkers and builders have been lifting barns and farmhouses, fashioning fine furniture and other interior staircase, balustrade, and cabinetry applications; and for as many years, craftsmen have been handing down long-honored secrets of the trade.
